FlagGuessr
Guess 1 / 5

What is FlagGuessr?

FlagGuessr is a free daily flag guessing game. Every day at midnight a new country flag is published β€” the same one for every player around the world. The flag starts heavily zoomed in, showing only a small portion. Your job is to identify the country before the full flag is revealed.

You have five guesses. Type a country name into the search box and select from the autocomplete list. After each wrong guess the zoom level decreases, revealing more of the flag. The fewer guesses you need, the higher your score β€” up to a maximum of 10,000 points.

How scoring works

Scoring is based on how quickly you identify the flag. A correct answer on the first guess earns the maximum 10,000 points. Each subsequent guess reduces the available score. At the end of each round you'll see an emotion label ranging from β€œClueless” to β€œVexillologist”.

One flag per day

There's no β€œplay again” button. One puzzle per day, same for everyone. This creates a shared experience β€” players around the world are all looking at the same flag on the same day. Finished today's puzzle? Use the calendar to go back and play any historical puzzle you missed.

Free, forever

Tips

  • β†’Tricolour flags are common β€” look for the exact shade and order of colours to narrow down the region.
  • β†’Emblems and coat of arms are highly distinctive β€” even partially visible they often give away the country.
  • β†’Pan-African colours (red, yellow, green) point to Africa. Pan-Arab (red, white, black, green) to MENA.
  • β†’Scandinavian crosses always point to Northern Europe.
  • β†’If you see a Union Jack in the corner, think Commonwealth nations.
  • β†’Your streak resets if you miss a day β€” use the calendar to catch up on historical puzzles.

Why flags?

Flags are deceptively simple. Most people recognise a dozen without thinking β€” but there are nearly 200 countries, and the differences matter. A red-white-blue tricolour could be France, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, or Croatia depending on the exact shades and layout. FlagGuessr sharpens that. After a few weeks of daily puzzles you'll stop confusing Chad and Romania, and start noticing the things that actually distinguish one flag from another.

How the zoom works

Each puzzle starts with the flag heavily cropped β€” you see only a small section, often just a colour field or a fragment of a symbol. After each wrong guess the zoom level decreases and more of the flag is revealed. By the fifth guess the full flag is visible. This means an early correct answer requires genuine flag knowledge, while a late correct answer might come from a lucky recognisable detail appearing mid-reveal.

FlagGuessr vs other geography games

DailyGuessr drops you into a street-level panorama and asks where in the world you are β€” it's about reading landscapes, signs, and architecture. FlagGuessr is the opposite: pure symbol recognition, no geography involved. You could know every flag perfectly and still struggle with DailyGuessr, and vice versa. Together they cover two completely different sides of world knowledge. Both are free, one puzzle each per day, no account needed.
